Kori de Leon

Kori de Leon is a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts in Theology. She is an author, speaker, teacher, conference leader, and founder/director of Adoring Christ Ministries. She lives in Houston, Texas with her husband Bobby and daughter Jade.

Kori was born and raised in Nebraska. After finishing college she moved to Houston, Texas and began a career in the fashion industry. Shortly after her arrival she heard the gospel and received a radical transformation experience from the hand of God. Until this time, Kori had spent her life in search of happiness only to discover that nothing in this world could satisfy her soul. However, on that warm Houston night she found what the human heart was created for, namely, the joy of a deep and experiential relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

As God began to show Kori wonderful things in His Word she found the cry of her heart aligned with the psalmist, “One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I will seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple” (Ps. 27:4). In time, God used her husband Bobby to open a door to leave the fashion industry and attend seminary. During this season Kori experienced God in an unexpected way. As a divine Surgeon, he began surfacing deep wounds in her heart from childhood sexual abuse that took place outside of her loving home. Like an onion, God began exposing unhealthy thought patterns layer by layer so he could apply the salve of truth for healing and transformation.

For example, when God began surfacing deep questions in her heart concerning his goodness she "happened" to be learning about his good character traits in Scripture. When God uprooted feelings of shame she "happened" to be studying the work of Jesus Christ on the cross for the forgiveness of sin. When God revealed her struggles with the different roles between men and women, she "happened" to be gazing upon the beauty of equality and roles between God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God's beauty created a desire to be near him and become like Him more and more each day. Kori began to realize that 2 Corinthians 3:18 was taking place in her life. "And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit." While beholding the beauty of God Kori was being healed and transformed in a progressive manner--little by little, degree by degree, glory by glory.

Consequently, the knowledge of God that she encountered through seminary was not something to store up like folders in the bookshelf of her mind. It was profoundly personal and transforming. When she began receiving invitations to speak at women's events she was eager to help others see the indescribable call in our lives to be like God in a human way (Genesis 1:27). And that our journey of becoming begins with beholding the beauty of God. Love leads to likeness in all areas of the human life.

These low and high points of Kori's journey help explain why her ministry is characterized by wonder at the majesty and beauty of God and his plan to transform ruined people into His beautiful likeness through Jesus Christ.
